COVID-19 spring boosters announced for spring

News -

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) have announced that from today, 15 April, those most at risk from developing severe COVID-19 will be able to book their vaccine booster.

Similar to previous spring vaccination campaigns, this includes people with CF who have had an organ transplant.

Last spring’s programme has shown that those who received a vaccine were around 50% less likely to be admitted to hospital with COVID-19 from two weeks following vaccination, compared to those who did not receive one.

Other groups eligible for the spring vaccinations include adults aged 75 or over, residents in a care home for older adults, and those aged 6 months or more who are immunosuppressed.

It is reassuring news that the NHS are once again offering COVID-19 vaccines to the most vulnerable groups, including people with CF who are post-transplant.

Vaccinations are an essential part of preventing you from getting seriously ill, and it’s important that everyone with CF who is eligible gets their COVID-19 booster as a preventative measure and to help ensure they remain as well as possible this coming spring.

You can get your COVID-19 vaccine three months after your last COVID-19 vaccine, and you can get protection from a spring COVID-19 vaccination even if you have not taken up a COVID-19 vaccine offer in the past.

The National Booking System for those eligible will open on 15 April 2024 with the first vaccinations available from 22 April 2024.
